Own a piece of history!

This finely crafted antique Bear Paw quilt was purchased from author and textile preservationist, Millie Leathers in 1987. Information given about quilt at time of purchase is that it was made around Middletown, Ohio, maker unknown. Fabrics in quilt date from 1840-1860 and are in excellent condition for a quilt of that age with fabrics and stitching still intact. No rot or decay of brown madder prints except for the small spots pointed out on two blocks (see photos). Visible mending on one block could be original to shirting fabric used to create the block, see photos. Quilt has never been laundered since purchase I purchased it in 1987 and was used only for display. Discoloration/stains have been on quilt prior to purchase and probably set in—have professionally cleaned if you desire less patina. The cotton in this quilt is high thread count and fine—even the homespun fabrics are exceptional. Hand quilted with tiny stitches. Bubble gum pink, madder brown, navy, turkey red, and cream palette. Backing is all the same brown floral print. Batting content unknown. Size: 70” x 82”
