Sewcial Bee Sampler Block #22

Sewcial Bee Sampler Block #22

It's the last week of June and we're working on block 22 out of 25! As we near the end of this incredible journey, my co-host, Maureen Cracknell and I are looking to future collaborations together. The success of the Sewcial Bee Sampler (SBS) has been phenomenal and mostly because of your participation and the remarkable community you've created out of this sew along.

To help us better understand what you're looking for in a future sew along, Maureen and I have prepared an 8 question survey. This quick questionnaire is completely anonymous and your answers will give us better insight into serving your needs as a quilter. To ensure the most accurate results, please only take the survey once. Many thanks to those who've participated in the SBS questionnaire already. If you've not yet had a chance to take the survey, please do, we're only keeping it open now through the end of the SBS sew along and then we'll close the survey. The link provided on both our blogs will link to the same survey. So, if you access the questionnaire from either Maureen's site or mine, your answers are compiled to the same place.

I'm not sure how many new Makers we've got joining our sew along at this late point but anyone just starting may want to take advantage of the in-blog tutorials for the different patchwork techniques used throughout the Sewcial Bee Sampler. Pick up tips and block variations beginning with the first blog post The Start of Something Sewcial.

Time to get sewing this week's block #22--Mosaic. Download the free PDf for the blocks on my Sew Along page.

The Mosaic block is made exclusively from No-Waste Flying Geese units we've all come to know and love. I think this is a very pretty block with great movement in the design. For a refresher on how to make the Flying Geese units using the No-Waste method, refer back to this tutorial here.

Each Flying Geese unit should measure 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" before sewing together to make the block. This creates an 8-1/2" square block before the frames are added to bring it up to our 12-1/2" square (unfinished) size.

I have two Sewcial Bee Sampler quilts going but I'm only up to date on my Bountiful fabrics blocks. My mixed collections quilt is two blocks behind at the moment. Bountiful is my newest fabric line from Art Gallery Fabrics and you can find where to purchase these summery fabrics on my Shop Fabrics page

Don't forget that this Friday's Giveaway Friday and this week Maureen hosting the giveaway from her blog. We've got a great giveaway planned from Knotted Threads you won't want to miss!

Paper Lanterns Table Runner

Paper Lanterns Table Runner

I had the greatest pleasure of sewing with Maureen Cracknell's new Soulful collection. Soulful is inspired by nature, handmade goods, and vintage finds celebrating the gentle spirit of makers. The sumptuous collection just released in May and is Maureen's newest fabric line for Art Gallery fabrics.

As you remember, both Maureen and I attended Quilt Market last month and both had booths to show off projects made from our newest collections. I created a table runner for Maureen's booth and finally have the pattern written so you can make one as well! Find the the free download for my Paper Lanterns Table Runner on my Free Patterns page

I love table runners and have several different looks that I rotate throughout the year. This runner is a large size of 21" x 69". If you need one larger or smaller, simply make more or less of the blocks. If you make a runner exactly the size as the free pattern then you'll have 8 extra A shaped pieces leftover. These leftover pieces are intentional because the A shape is an A and an A reverse type of shape. Having an extra piece allows for you to play with where the prints go and the orientation of the shape in the block.

After I had completed my runner I was playing with the leftover A shapes and found I could turn those into a cute pieced zip pouch!

I sewed the 8 leftover A and A reverse shapes together to make a rectangle. I used flannel behind the pieced rectangle and machine quilted 1/4" aways from the seams in all directions. You can you all or just some of the leftover pieces, depending upon how big you want your pouch.

Once the quilting was done I squared it all up and cut a lining to match the pieced exterior size. From there you will want to follow your favorite pattern for making zip pouches. I do not have a pattern for this but can point you to some blogs that have some nice tutorials:

Be sure to watch for the upcoming Soulful Lookbook by Art Gallery Fabrics. The fantastic virtual magazines published by AGF for each fabric line is a feast for the eyes and loaded with sewing inspiration! You'll even see my Paper Lanterns table runner among the beautiful projects.
