There’s a brand new quilt pattern available in my Shop that’s specifically designed to help you use up those fat quarters and sew down your fabric stash. Additionally, it’s a quick and easy quilt to make, perfect if you’re looking for a fast project to complete before the busy holiday season arrives! Add instant charm to your home with the Scrap Basket throw quilt.
This pattern is available in just one quilt size; a generous 69” x 86” throw that provides ample coverage and comfort. Don’t let the single size option fool you—this generous throw is versatile enough to fit a twin size bed or, when rotated 90 degrees, can easily cover a double bed as well. The pattern is labeled as a confident beginner level quilt, mainly due to the Set-in triangle construction and the diagonal row assembly, which offer a bit of a challenge while remaining manageable. The blocks themselves are very beginner-friendly, featuring large-piece half-square triangles, squares, and strip set piecing for the 9-Patch blocks, making it a great project for those new to quilting. Please refer to the listing images for detailed information about the block size and the complete materials list needed to complete the quilt.
I created the cover quilt using warm shades of yellow, peach, and pink, combined with green baskets and accents so this quilt could seamlessly bridge multiple seasons, from the freshness of spring into the sunny days of summer or to the richness of fall. To develop this harmonious palette, I blended prints from several collections, carefully selecting fabrics from my Midsummer, Potager, and Heirloom collections for Art Gallery Fabrics. For an added touch of comfort and coziness, I backed the quilt with a soft flannel print from my Heirloom collection, which beautifully echoes the pattern used in the 9-Patch blocks.
I used Hobbs Batting Tuscany Wool/Cotton blend batting inside the quilt, combined with the soft flannel backing for added warmth and texture. This combination gives the quilt a slightly heavier weight than traditional quilts, which, in my opinion, makes it the perfect snuggle weight—both cozy and comforting without feeling too bulky or cumbersome. The beautiful “Rosemary” quilting design was expertly quilted by Ligia of Dearly Quilted, whose skill brought the quilt's details to life. Ligia was an absolute pleasure to work with and returned my quilted quilt within a very quick turnaround time—I highly recommend her services to anyone looking for quality and professionalism!
I didn’t have time to arrange any quilt kit offerings from shops specifically for this pattern, but I believe this is one you could, for the most part, easily source from your existing stash. However, if you find yourself in need of some additional fat quarters to complete your project, I’ve restocked a selection of fat quarter bundles during my Sample Sale, which is happening right now through November 18th, 2025. Typically, this website does not sell fabrics directly, as I usually encourage makers to support their local quilt shops or purchase from online sellers rather than buying from me, the designer. That said, the fat quarter bundles listed for this special popup sale are composed of my early AGF collections that are no longer in production and are exceptionally difficult to find—whether you’re looking for a complete collection or a just a color way from the collection.
Since my popup sale is happening right now through 11/18/25, it’s the perfect time to add more products to the sale for those looking for thoughtful gifts or something special for themselves, I’ve decided to include this beautiful Scrap Basket cover quilt in the Sample Sale. Its listing will go live at the exact time this blog post is published, making it easy for you to browse and shop right away.

IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER:
MELISSA DAVID
Melissa David of Quilting Above the Clouds on Instagram is a prolific maker known for her creativity and dedication to quilting. Even champions like Melissa, however, get busy and don’t always have the time to complete an entire quilt. To make the most of her efforts, Melissa tested the blocks for this Scrap Basket quilt and then cleverly transformed those orphan blocks into a beautiful and practical tote bag. This project not only showcases her skill but also demonstrates how to use up scraps from her stash efficiently and thoughtfully.
Once the Basket and 9-Patch blocks were made, Melissa cut the nine patch block in half diagonally twice to make the set-in triangles for the front of the bag. Then she assembled the quilt block with the set-in triangles and trimmed the finished block (bag front) to 16-3/4” square. She then cut (2) lining panels to the same size as the bag front and quilted the tote front and back on her domestic machine.
The tote was made, following Tamara Darragh’s blog post tutorial “How to Make a Quilted Tote from any Quilt Block” to construct my bag with a minor tweak of making her boxed corners 1/2” wider for a finished size of 14-1/2” tall x 14-1/2” wide x 3” deep.
JOYCE ULM
Joyce Ulm selected prints from my Tumbleweed collection for Art Gallery Fabrics to create this absolutely gorgeous fall palette Scrap Basket Quilt. In addition, Joyce backed her beautiful quilt with cozy AGF flannel from the Tumbleweed collection, which adds an extra layer of warmth and texture—I truly love everything about this quilt! Joyce’s work is consistently flawless, and she also does the long arm quilting on all of her quilts, always selecting the perfect pantograph design that complements her pieces perfectly. You can see more of Joyce’s work on Instagram @evamaescustomquilts, Etsy shop, and on her Facebook blog HERE. You can commission your quilts to be long armed by Joyce. I have used her services many times to quilt my own quilts, and she is always wonderful to work with! Her skill and attention to detail ensure that each quilt turns out beautifully.
MARIJA VUJCIC
Each of the Tester graphics beautifully highlight the unique personalities of every maker, but none express individuality quite as vividly as Marija’s thoughtful color and print selections, which perfectly capture her boldness and nature-loving spirit. I particularly adore the choice of the rich red background in Marija’s fabric pull featuring prints from my Kismet collection for Art Gallery Fabrics—it wonderfully complements the baskets within this warm, autumn-inspired color palette. Marija is truly the queen of free motion quilting, skillfully completing all the quilting on her domestic sewing machine with remarkable precision and creativity. For this specific quilt, Marija chose to back it with luxuriously soft Cuddle fabric and layered it with Hobbs Tuscany Wool/Cotton batting, resulting in a quilt that is incredibly cozy and inviting to snuggle up with. Be sure to follow this talented lady on Instagram Marija Vujcic and on her blog at Mara Quilt Designs.
