Tallinn Fabrics Blog Tour

Tallinn Fabrics Blog Tour

Today's my stop on the Jessica Swift Tallinn blog tour! Tallinn is Jessica's first fabric collection for Art Gallery Fabrics. Now available in shops, Tallinn is inspired by Jessica’s travels through Eastern Europe. Picturesque Estonian villages, graceful swans, & a deep love for combining quirky folk motifs come together in her playful collection.

Kantha-Style Duffle Bag

I knew I wanted to play with texture and enhance the ethnic vibe of these prints with Aurifloss embroidery thread so I decided to make a quilted duffle bag. I want to tell you right up front there's no pattern for this bag. It's something I've designed but there just isn't enough time in the days to do it all so I'm very sorry not to be adding a pattern in with this post. Instead, we will enjoy Jessica's prints and learn more about some of the products used to make this fun bag.

BG0A5422.jpg

The fabrics used in my bag are: Tigris Indigo, Magija Pumpkin, Baltic Swans Sky, Lore Rooftop, and Odessa Dream.

Simple, varied width strips of fabric were sewn together into panels for the front and back of the bag and I free-form, hand stitched chunky running stitches with 3-ply strands of the 6-ply cotton Aurifloss embroidery thread.

To keep adding texture and interesting details to my duffle bag I incorporated Dritz Extra-Large Eyelets in this marvelous antique brass finish to the closer-edge of the bag and on the boxed corner tabs. Eyelets are super easy to apply with the kit and a hammer.

Another Dritz product used in this project is their cording for the drawstring and a little extra bling with a tassel made using Dritz Tassel Cap kit. I loved this natural color of the Dritz Twist Cord that picked up the colors in the Odessa Dream tan floral in Jessica's collection.

BG0A5773.jpg

Can you believe I've never made a tassel before with these awesome tassel caps!?!? It's so easy! I used Art Gallery Fabrics solid knit fabric

I simply cut a piece of knit and folded it widthwise. Then I took a pair of shears and snipped fringe through the folded layers, leaving the folded edge uncut.

BG0A5777.jpg

To make the tassel I followed the directions on the back of the Dritz Tassel Cap package and used Aleene's No-Sew Fabric Glue to roll the knit tassel and attach to the antique brass cap.

BG0A5807.jpg

Inside my bag I've used more of the navy Tigris Indigo print along with the fun Baltic Swans Sky print for the pockets.

BG0A5791.jpg

Plenty of pocket room to tote all your gear on your next vacation get away, quilting workshop, or wherever you wander!

I hope you've enjoyed my stop on the Tallinn blog tour! Be sure to follow along with the other makers and on Instagram by following the hashtags #TallinnFabrics and #TallinnFabricsBlogTour.

TODAY'S FEATURED COMMUNITY SAMPLER SPONSOR IS the Fat Quarter Shop!

Fat Quarter Shop logo.jpg

The Fat Quarter Shop was founded in 2003 by Kimberly Jolly. An avid quilter, Kimberly began her shop as a side business while still working a corporate position, cutting, packing and shipping right out of her house during evenings and weekends. From the very beginning, she was committed to delivering top-notch service for every single order and customer. As the Fat Quarter Shop's reputation grew, Kimberly decided to make it a full-time operation. Her husband Kevin joined her not long after, and with his help, lots of hard work, and a tireless commitment, the store began to grow. Over the past few years a few more people have joined the staff! As a team, they continue to branch out with the best fabrics, exclusive kits, quilt clubs, BOMs, and more. And they will always be driven by the passion that Kimberly founded the store upon, which is always giving you the best products and service!

Bountiful Holiday Tour Week 2 Recap

Bountiful Holiday Tour Week 2 Recap

Bountiful Week 2.jpg

It's been a fun packed second week on the Bountiful Holiday Blog Tour and an honor to have these talented designers working with my prints. I hope you're getting lots of sewing ideas for the upcoming holiday season!?!?

Stepping Stones quilt and photo by Blair Stocker / Wise Craft Handmade.

Stepping Stones quilt and photo by Blair Stocker / Wise Craft Handmade.

Let's get right into the recap, starting with Blair Stocker of Wise Craft Handmade on Monday. I'm in love with everything Blair does because her sense of pattern play and quilt style speak to my soul. I have both of her beautiful books, Wise Craft and Wise Craft Quilts and want to make every project in them! Blair used her stand alone Stepping Stones quilt pattern and made a mini quilt with Bountiful fabrics. I love the shadow play of lights and darks and how this design can take on different looks the longer you explore it. Read more about Blair's Bountiful make and more about her on her blog.

On Tuesday, the incredibly talented Silvia Sutters of A Stranger View blew all of us away with her Weave quilt of select Bountiful prints and Art Gallery Fabrics coordinating Pure Element solids. Here's another designer that I admire and love everything she stitches. Silvia tells you exactly how she made this quilt in her tour blog post which you must visit just to see all the beautiful photos she took of this quilt--wow. I'm also crazy for the quilting Silvia did on this quilt!

Kitchen Set and photo by Peta Peace / She Quilts A Lot

Kitchen Set and photo by Peta Peace / She Quilts A Lot

This beautiful kitchen set trio was designed and made by Peta Peace of She Quilts A Lot. Peta is a highly accomplished and talented designer who also has her own book A Piece of Cake that's absolutely delicious with great quilty projects. Peta's kitchen set project is so lovely in her limited palette of Bountiful prints. Don't you adore the fussy cut farm scene on the towel--perfection! Best thing is Peta has made a free PDF download pattern for this project! If you could bare to part with the set it sure would be a wonderful hostess gift for holiday party going. Read more about this on Peta's Bountiful blog post.

Gather Round placemats and photo by Sharon Holland / Sharon Holland Designs

I couldn't let everyone have all the fun so I took a day on this blog tour to share a new free pattern. Thursday I blogged about my Gather Round placemats. This project is a free PDF download and they go together really quick. The hexagon shape looks great on any size table and the instructions are given for making 6 placemats. Read more about this project on my post and see how they are also reversible!

Knit dress and photo by Heather Andrus / Quilt Story

Knit dress and photo by Heather Andrus / Quilt Story

Friday ended our second week of the tour with Heather Andrus of Quilt Story. Heather stitched with Bountiful Vine Umbra print knit dress for her youngest girl. I adore this color on her and wouldn't this dress be perfect nearly year round? AGF knits are thick and buttery soft and good for all sorts of sewing besides garments. I still want to try making a knit quilt one of these days with simple squares. Read more about Heather's make and how flirty fun this dress is on her adorable girl--I love it!
