Do you remember this past spring when my Garden Gate quilt pattern was first released as a kit through Art Gallery Fabrics? Over the initial six months, this pattern has been offered exclusively as a printed pattern, available both on its own and as part of a beautifully curated quilt kit at your favorite local and online shops. Quilt kits featuring the cover quilt Potager fabrics version are still available for purchase from shops such as the Fat Quarter Shop , Old South Fabrics, and Lovering Quilt Co.. Additionally, these kits can be found by searching through various shop listings on Etsy, making them accessible through multiple sources. Now, you can get just the PDF pattern from my pattern Shop.
This beautiful medallion-style oversized throw quilt features an array of charming details, from the water fountain central pinwheel block to the garden paths that lead to large, vibrant flower pots filled with daisies and tulips. The design is further enhanced by the outer borders, which showcase a classic picket fence alongside delightful checkerboard sunflowers, creating a cottage garden aesthetic.
This intermediate skill level 64” x 76” throw quilt is a medallion-style quilt. The fully illustrated pattern breaks down the piecing into different types of blocks and each one is fun to make. It’s like a sampler quilt, in a way!
The cover quilt (above) features fabrics from my Potager collection and creates a beautiful spring and summer quilt in sunny yellow, fresh leaf greens, and a range of blues that extend from deep navy to soft sky. The vibrant colors come together to evoke the warmth and freshness of those seasons. However, before this cover quilt could come to life, there was a test quilt made to test the pattern and experiment with different coloring options. To showcase the full range of this quilt pattern, I stitched the test quilt using a fall through winter palette of rich teal, warm gold, orange, and deep berry red. This version incorporates prints from several of my Art Gallery Fabrics collections. Most of the prints for the test quilt originated from the Tumbleweed collection, but I also included a print from Listen to Your Heart and a subtle design from Heirloom, which helped to achieve the perfect seasonal look as you’ll see in the fabric pull image below.
This non-traditional Christmas palette would look good from fall through winter and I love a quilt that bridges several season and makes a big statement in my home decor.
This bold and beautiful bird’s-eye garden view offers so much charm and character, with colors that strongly evoke the traditional appliqué quilts of the past. You can clearly see how enjoyable and creative this quilt is for experimenting with a variety of different colors and prints, making it a delightful project for anyone who loves mixing patterns and hues.
The large throw could also be used as a bed topper to dress up a room for the holidays. The cheery color palette would brighten up the short winter days.
Both the cover quilt and the holiday (test) version have 100% cotton batting inside to give them a traditional quilt drape and weight. Both were long arm quilted by Brooke Becker of Lady Belle Fabric with an all-over daisy pattern for the springy cover quilt and a beautiful full rose and leaf design for the holiday version.
Whichever season you choose for your garden to be blooming in, the Garden Gate quilt pattern will help you cultivate a green thumb and create a stunning, beautiful result! You can get your pattern today, or conveniently shop online at your favorite fabric shop to find the complete cover version kit and start your project with ease.
Happy sewing,
